The Grain

Bobiță

Bobiță says

Hi! I'm Bobiță, a grain of wheat. Come with me — I'll show you how I travel from a field to your plate of pasta.

I wake up in the soil

In autumn the farmer plants me in the soil. I wake up, grow roots and a little green shoot reaching for the sun.

Golden and ready

In summer I turn golden and become an ear full of new grains. Now I'm ripe and ready for harvest!

We're not all alike

Durum wheat has hard, golden grains — it makes the best pasta. Soft wheat is better for bread.

Two ways to grow

I can grow on huge fields with lots of chemicals, or on nature-friendly farms that feed the soil and save local seeds.
