Domeniile Franco-Române was born from Burgundy winemaker Denis Thomas's wager: that the hills between Gura Vadului and Săhăteni, with a terroir much like Burgundy's, could make Romanian wine in a French spirit. The estate switched to organic farming in 2003 and in 2006 earned Ecocert certification for Romania's first organic wine. Since 2020 the story has been carried on by the Olariu family, who brought the Persu-Eminescu vineyards into the estate — land in their family since the 1840s. Today: over 85 hectares, 50 of them farmed organically. DFR wines accompany the Farm-to-Table menu and sit by the bottle in our shop.
